Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has passed a resolution urging the Centre to restore statehood to J&K. This development comes after Omar Abdullah’s earlier statement that the first business of the J&K cabinet would be to pass a resolution asking the Centre to restore statehood.
The draft has been prepared and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will travel to Delhi soon to handover the draft to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pressing for the restoration of statehood.
Omar Abdullah had expressed hope that the government in Jammu and Kashmir will be able to run smoothly, unlike in Delhi. He also emphasized the importance of coordination between the new J-K government and the Centre, stating that nothing can be achieved by having a confrontation with New Delhi .
The resolution is seen as a significant step towards restoring statehood to J&K, which was revoked in 2019. The move is expected to have far-reaching implications for the region’s politics and development. (DE)
