Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir based top scholarly committee, headed by Grand Mufti – Mufti Nasir ul Islam Farooqi – is gearing to look towards the sky in anticipation for observance of Shawwal crescent. The quest will ensue right after Maghrib (sunset) prayers across the Himalayan region in consonance with different other parts observing the fasting month of holy Ramadan.

The committee with Mirwaiz Kashmir Moulvi Umar Farooq as one of its members’, was constituted prior to Ramadan 2024 (1445 A.H) in an endeavour to delve and decide on the credibility of the witnesses’ regarding sighting of crescent on various important occasions – especially on Holy Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr eve, in Jammu and Kashmir.

The top scholarly besides Mirwaiz includes Maulvi Rehmatullah Mir Qasmi of Dar Ul Uloom Raheemiya; Maulvi Ghulam Rasool Haami of Karwaan-e-Islam International; Hujjat-ul-Islam Agha Hassan Al-mousvi Al-safavi; Fayaz Ahmad Rizvi Vice President Sout-ul-Auliya; Syed Shabir Geelani President Saadat International; Syed Aslam Andrabi Vice President Muslim Personal Law Board; Masroor Abbas Ansari President Itehad-ul-Muslimeen; Nazir Ahmad Qadri from Jammu and Maulana Abdul Hameed Nayeemi.

“The scholars of the Committee will discuss the reliability of witnesses’ before making the final announcement regarding the sighting of the crescent,” said Mufti Nasir ul Islam while talking to Alfaaz – The Words.

“We have our representatives across different parts of Jammu and Kashmir who will be looking for the Shawwal crescent this evening,” said Islam adding “The witnesses’ reliability would be testified and if deemed proper will be taken into consideration to the effect for final announcement.”
