Kupwara: In a bid to put up a stiff fight against rival candidates, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday announced candidature of party’s four known faces from four different constituencies in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The party in its second list of 32 candidates, announced the candidature of party’s Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani (Sogami) from Kupwara (Main), former Cabinet Minister Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan from Handwara, former Cabinet Minister Mir Saifullah from Trehgam and former MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone from Lolab constituency.

The announcement of the prominent figures has ruffled feathers of many parties in the respective constituencies, as they expect a tough fight from the season-campaigners.

With Kupwara district off-late becoming a hub of political activities, essentially for Sajad Gani Lone led Peoples’ Conference and Er. Rashid’s Awami Ittehad Party, it would be interesting to see as to who the two parties, alongside Peoples’ Democratic Party and Apni Party, would be conferring their mandates for the coveted segments.ย All in all, the north Kashmir district is set to witness a fiery electoral battle between the contesting candidates, in comparison with other districts.

It is pertinent to mention here that the National Conference has left the only remaining segment in the district, Langate, to its ally Indian National Congress.
