Srinagar: After the House resumed proceedings following an hour-long adjournment, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was adjourned for a third time on Wednesday amidst uproar. This followed the passage of a resolution calling for dialogue between the Centre and elected representatives to restore the erstwhile state’s special status.
“If you do not want to thank the (Lt.) Governor Sahab for his address, I can not help,” SpeakerAbdul Rahim Rather told the protesting BJP members – the main opposition in the house, after the house resumed after two adjournments. The BJP lawmakers in the house’s well since the morning were unrelenting. They were on the desks and the tables meant for the staff of the assem, by the secretariat. Eventually, the house was adjourned for the day. “The House is adjourned for the day,” he ruled, asking members to rejoin Thursday at 10 am.
The first adjournment came within moments after BJP protested over the introduction and passage of the resolution by Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary. After some time when the House resumed, the BJP refused to leave the well of the house. They continued protesting and addressing the media from the well of the House till the Speaker ordered that no media should operate from the House that is not in operation.
After an hour-long adjournment, the house resumed and the situation refused to alter in any way. After a few moments of asking the opposition to take their sears and permit the routine of the house, when nothing happened, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day. (KL)
