Srinagar: Inordinate delay vis-a-vis disbursal of General Provident Fund (GPF) cases and contractor bills by Treasuries Department, has created a precarious situation for thousands of the intended beneficiaries, with the officials not in any mood to do away with the looming uncertainty.
News agency GNS reported that it has over the past few weeks received calls from many people regarding the pendency of the amounts due from the Treasuries.
“It has been several months now that I have been waiting for the disbursal of my case,” said an aggrieved beneficiary, adding, “all that I have to do is wait and wait, with no sign of any relief from the office concerned.”
“Ironically, the officials from top to bottom are too lackadaisical in their approach and seem in no mood to help us,” he told.
Decrying accruing of debt, another aggrieved beneficiary said that, “over the period of time, I have been caught in a debt trap whilst waiting for disbursal of my case, but it all seems futile for there is no advancement (with regard to the case).”
Many other people also expressed similar concerns, which only indicate the alleged lack of consideration towards the genuine case by the officials concerned.
“I have to dispose of several familial matters, but with literally nothing in hand I am gone frustrated,” another aggrieved beneficiary said.
“Who will make them (officials) understand our situation?”, he lamented.
A contractor on condition of anonymity, as per the report said that it is too sad of a state of affairs that the Treasuries have been playing down our genuine concerns. “I have been overwhelmed by the frequent visits and calls of workers and other people who I engaged in different capacities during the completion of my project,” the contractor said, adding, “Despite many representations to the officials’ concern, nothing seems to be working for me and many others who I know.”
“This lackadaisical approach is costing us our reputation and dignity,” he rued.
When GNS tried to, the officials, in a seeming affirmation to claims of aggrieved beneficiaries, didn’t respond to intermittant calls for almost a week now.
