Srinagar: India has successfully evacuated its first group of citizens from Iran amidst escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.

Approximately 110 Indian medical students from Urmia Medical University, including 90 from the Kashmir Valley and others from various Indian states, crossed into Armenia on Tuesday. The students, as per Jammu Kashmir Students’ Association, confirmed their safe arrival in Yerevan, where they were accommodated in designated hotels.

The Office of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar confirmed that the Government of India is covering all repatriation costs, including flights back to India and onward domestic travel from Delhi to Srinagar for the Kashmiri students.

The students commenced their return journey to India today (June 18). They departed Yerevan Airport (EVN) at 08:45 hrs local time on IndiGo flight 6E 9483 (A320), bound for Hamad International Airport, Doha (DOH), with an expected arrival at 14:05 hrs. Check-in and baggage drop closed at 07:30 hrs. From Doha, they are scheduled to connect to IndiGo flight 6E 9487 (A320) departing at 15:05 hrs for Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, Terminal 3 (DEL), with an estimated arrival at 22:15 hrs. Check-in and baggage drop for the Delhi flight closed at 13:50 hrs. Authorities note a possibility of a slight delay for the Doha-Delhi leg.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) said it is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining constant coordination with students and authorities to ensure a smooth return.

Expressing gratitude, Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the JKSA, stated, “We are grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar Ji for their timely intervention in ensuring the safety and evacuation of our students. We remain hopeful that the remaining students in Iran will also be evacuated at the earliest.”
