Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized 8 kilograms of heroin during a routine checkpoint operation on Tuesday night in Srinagar.
While addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Imtiyaz Hussain said that two individuals were arrested in connection with the case.
He said the duo hailing from Karnah Kupwara had stolen the heroin under the driver’s seat of the Sumo vehicle.
He said police post Qamarwari had erected a checkpoint near Barthana, where a police team led by Sub Inspector Imtiyaz Ahmad stopped a Sumo vehicle bearing registration number JK05D 1837.
“The arrested individuals, identified as Anas Ajaz Awan and Zahid Ahmed Sheikh, both residents of Karnah in Kupwara district, were found in possession of the illicit substance.”
SSP said that the value of the seizure in the international market is over Rs 32 crores.
He said during the investigation it came to the fore that this heroin had entered Kashmir from Pakistan and there is a network that has been identified.
SSP warned that anyone indulging in drug peddling will face the music. (CNS)
