Handwara: Ganapora Qaziabad Residents Protest Over Acute Water Shortage

Handwara: Locals in Ganapora area of Qaziabad Tuesday staged a protest demonstration over acute shortage of potable water in the area.

The protest led to a disruption in traffic movement on the Handwara Baramulla highway for several hours.

Protesters carried empty water pitchers and chanted slogans against the administration’s alleged failure to address the issue.

Despite repeated complaints to the Jal Shakti department, the locals claim that no action has been taken to resolve the crisis so far.

“We have been suffering for a long time due to the acute shortage of drinking water in our area. We have brought this issue to the attention of the officials, but they have been callous towards our problems,” said a protester.

While acknowledging that the blockade may have caused inconvenience to commuters, the locals said that they even had no other option left with them.

Later Police visited the spot and assured the protestors of swift action to address the water crisis.

Following their assurance, the protesters dispersed peacefully and the traffic restored.

The residents of Ganapora Qaziabad have urged the higher-ups to take immediate action to resolve the water crisis in the area to prevent the locals from suffering any further. (via. Meer Javeed)
