Srinagar: Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir ul Islam Farooqi Saturday extended his gratitude to Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar for taking a prompt action against miscreants who recently attempted to harm the prevailing sectarian bonhomie in Valley.
“I express my gratitude to the Police Department, especially SSP Srinagar, for taking immediate action against miscreants who tried to create sectarian gap between Shia and Sunni communities,” Farooqi in a message issued here said.
“Hope such incidents do not happen in future,” the Grand Mufti said, adding, “His (SSP) timely legal action has assured that nothing derogatory or inflammatory will be accepted and that law of the land will prevail irrespective of caste, creed, color or sect.”
“We appreciate the Team Police Srinagar,” read the message further.
Notably, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Srinagar recently detained six individuals alleged of making derogatory remarks, risking breaking out of sectarian unrest in the Valley.
The miscreants, the Police said, were charged under sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS Act for their involvement in spreading provocative content that threatened public harmony.
