Kupwara: The Gen Bipin Rawat Fencing Championship has officially kicked off at the Vajr Fencing Node, Maidan-e-Azam, Kupwara, under the aegis of the Chinar Corpsโ Sadbhavana Project.
Organized in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Fencing Association (JKFA), the regional-level tournament runs from October 3 to 5, 2025, highlighting the growing prominence of fencing among the youth of North Kashmir.
The championship, named in honour of the late General Bipin Rawat, Indiaโs first Chief of Defence Staff, celebrates his legacy of leadership, discipline, and commitment to national integration. A total of eight teams from across the region are participating, showcasing the talent and competitive spirit of young athletes.
The Vajr Fencing Node, inaugurated earlier this year under the Khelo India movement with support from CSR India, has quickly become a centre for nurturing fencing talent. Following successful fencing camps and district-level tournaments in JulyโAugust 2025, this championship reinforces the nodeโs growing role in developing sporting skills among youth.
The event aims to foster discipline, confidence, resilience, and sportsmanship, providing athletes with a platform to sharpen their abilities and compete at higher levels. Media personnel, sports enthusiasts, and local supporters are attending to witness the tournament and celebrate the spirit of youth empowerment and regional pride.
