In the gentle hush of early morning, with dew still clinging to leaves and laughter rising from eager hearts, a group of college students departed from Sogam for what was meant to be a joyful picnic. Spirits were high, the road ahead full of promise—until tragedy struck.
Their vehicle, carrying students along a narrow, winding stretch of road, veered off course and collided with a roadside tree. The crash was sudden, shattering not just glass and metal, but the lives and dreams of those within.
Among the most grievous losses were Asiya and Maymoona—two vibrant young women whose futures gleamed with potential. Friends remember their laughter, their kindness, and the way they lit up any room they entered. That morning, they were dressed for joy, but fate had written a different story.
“Morning’s promise turned to pain, Sunlit hopes swept down the lane.”
The Sogam college campus is now cloaked in mourning. Grief hangs heavy in the corridors they once walked. Students have gathered at the college gate, leaving bouquets, notes, and silent prayers. A candlelight vigil is planned at first light tomorrow to honor the memory of Asiya and Maymoona—two lives gone too soon.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on the condition of the road and potential driver error. Yet no official report can soften the heartbreak that lingers.
May the soft light of that Kupwara morning cradle their spirits, and may we hold tight to the warmth of their memory.
