Sogam (Kupwara): Government Degree College (GDC) Sogam on Tuesday held a meeting to condole the untimely demise of two young students in a tragic accident at Handwara.
“To mourn the unfortunate demise of our two beloved students/daughters, Aasiya Akhter (Semester VI) and Mymoona Ali (Semester VI), who passed away in the tragic accident at Vudhpora, Kupwara on 12th April, 2025 early morning when the College was on its way to one- day picnic to Tulip Garden, the College convened a Condolence Meeting in one of its lawns from 11:25 am to 11:55 am on 15th April, 2025,” reads a statement issued here.
“Heartfelt condolences were extended to the beavered families of the deceased in particular and to the College Fraternity in general. The passing away of the two budding students was declared to be a great loss to the whole Lolab Valley. The College Fraternity vowed that the moral integrity and ethical uprightness of these students would never be lost sight of,” reads the statement, as per Alfaaz – The Words.
“A prayer session was also held in the meeting for the peace of the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the students and staff who were injured in the fatal accident.”
“Heartfelt gratitude was expressed to the people of Vudhpora, Kupwara and the CRPF Jawans on patrol who came forward at the time of accident to rescue the injured. Profuse thanks were offered to the staff and doctors of SDH, Handwara, SMHS, Srinagar and SKIMS, Srinagar for keeping no stone unturned to treat the injured. Gratitude was also paid to the District Administration Kupwara headed by Ms. Ayushi Sudan DC Kupwara who visited the Hospital immediately after the accident and monitored the overall situation,” reads the statement.
“The role of ADC Handwara, SDPO Handwara and Tehsildar, Handwara for putting in great efforts for the treatment of the injured was also appreciated. Traders Federation, Handwara was also hailed and thanked for its prompt action for making available the medicines for the injured. Moreover, Subdivision Administration Sogam, Police Administration Sogam and Mohalla Committees of the localities (Kalaroos and Sogam) of the deceased students were thanked for their cooperation in handling the unpredicted circumstances which emerged after the false rumours soon after the accident.”
“The efforts made by the Honourable Minister for Higher Education Ms. Sakeena Itoo, Advisor to Chief Minister Jenab Nasir Aslam Wani, Member Legislative Assembly Lolab Mr. Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, DDC Sogam Mr. Nasir Nazir Lone, the Director Colleges Prof. (Dr.) Aijaz Bashir and the representatives from different Political parties for the proper treatment and speedy recovery was praised. The concern shown by the Principals/Heads and faculty of different Institutions was highly appreciated. The role played by the volunteer students of GDC Sogam at SDH Handwara was also valued,” concludes the statement.
