HANDWARA: As the nation prepares to commemorate the153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, a spirit of cleanliness and community service filled the air at Government Degree College (GDC)
Handwara.
In a remarkable display of unity and dedication, GDC Handwara joined hands with the 26 Battalion Border Security Force (BSF) Handwara to carry out a massive Cleanliness Drive on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti under the banner of the Swachhata Campaign.
S F P Vaiphei 2IC(OPS)/Officiating Commandant Dr. Mohd Iqbal Darzi officiating Principal GDC Handwara , Shri Vijay Singh Ghamoriya 2IC (ADM), alongwith other officers participated in this programme.
This momentous event witnessed a dynamic collaboration between GDC Handwara’s student
volunteers, led by officers from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the National Service Scheme (NSS), and the vigilant Officers of
the BSF.
Together, they embarked on a mission to transform the college campus into a pristine symbol of cleanliness and hygiene.
After the rigorous cleanup, participants gathered to take solemn pledge, vowing to make cleanliness an integral part of their daily lives.
This pledge was not just a symbolic gesture but a heartfelt commitment to uphold the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, who championed the importance of cleanliness as a reflection of a healthy society and a clean conscience.
Dr. Mohd Iqbal Darzi, SFP Vaiphei and Vijay Singh Ghamoriya addressed the gathering on this auspicious occasion. They underscored the significance of the event, emphasizing that cleanliness is not merely a physical act but a reflection of one’s inner values and respect for the environment.
