Srinagar: Two labourers were shot dead and three others injured by suspected militants in Ganderbal district on Sunday.
News agency GNS quoted a top police officer as saying that militants fired upon the labourers, working for IFFCO company in Gagangir area of the central Kashmir district this evening.
They were immediately shifted to nearby hospital where doctors declared two of them brought dead, the officer said.
Meanwhile, a massive search operation has been launched to nab the attackers.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah taking on micro-blogging platform X wrote, ” Very sad news of a dastardly & cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. 2 have been killed & 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people & send my condolences to their loved ones”.
The incident comes two days after a bullet-riddled body of a non-local man was found in the Waduna area of Zainapora, Shopian district in south Kashmir.
