Ganderbal: Syeda Kubra has created history by becoming the first female Wushu athlete from Kashmir and Ganderbal district to win a medal at the national level. She secured a bronze medal in Wushu Taolu, Xangiquan category, at the 9th Federation National Wushu Championship held at Sanskar City International School in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh.

Kubra’s achievement marks a significant milestone for womenโ€™s participation in martial arts from the region. Her performance reflected sustained training, discipline, and competitive consistency against athletes from across the country.

Her success has brought recognition to Ganderbal and Kashmir on the national sports stage, and the medal is expected to encourage more young girls to take up competitive sports, particularly martial arts disciplines.

Kubra expressed gratitude to her mentors and coaches for their role in her journey. Special appreciation was extended to Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo for his guidance and mentorship. She also acknowledged the contribution of Mashooq Ahmad, coach of the Wushu Association of Ganderbal, for his focused training and continuous support.

The Wushu Association of Ganderbal welcomed the achievement and said it reflects the growing sports potential in the district. Officials said sustained institutional support and quality coaching can help local athletes compete consistently at national and international levels.

The championship was organised under the aegis of the Wushu Federation of India and featured participation from multiple states and Union Territories.
