Ganapora Kralgund Locals Decry Roadside Cow Dung Dumping, Urge Authorities to Act

Handwara: Residents of Ganapora Kralgund in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district are raising alarms over large piles of cow dung and garbage dumped along roadsides, creating unsanitary conditions.

Locals report that individuals are polluting roads by dumping heaps of garbage and cow dung. They state that the accumulation is a direct result of the concerned authorities’ failure to maintain cleanliness in the area. Despite repeatedly bringing the issue to the attention of relevant departments, no action has been taken so far.

According to villagers, many households are dumping garbage, cow dung, and other waste material roadside, posing a threat to the community.

Residents have appealed to the Rural Development Department and District Administration to intervene. “The presence of cow dung on roads has become common in Ganapora, causing inconvenience to pedestrians, motorists, and commuters,” said local resident Jahangir Ahmad. “Cow dung is regularly found on the road, creating unsanitary conditions and unpleasant odours.”

Ahmad added that this not only affects the area’s aesthetic appeal but also poses health risks, especially during rainy seasons when the dung mixes with water and spreads. “We have already raised complaints at our Tehsil and BDO office, but nobody takes action against these culprits who throw cow dung on the road.”

Locals have appealed to the District Development Commissioner Kupwara to personally look into the matter and help resolve the problem at the earliest.
