GUNMEN ATTACK

Srinagar: In the backdrop of a major attack on non-local labourers in Gagangir Sonamarg area, the Peoples’ Democratic Party Chief Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday expressed serious concern over alleged directions from Ganderbal administration asking the non-local labourers to leave – their stations.

“After the barbaric attack at Sonamarg there are reports that the local admin is pressurising non local labourers to leave the valley immediately. While I understand their obvious sense of panic but asking them to leave in this manner is not a solution. Will only create more difficulties & sends a very bad message to the country,” the PDP Chief wrote in an ‘X’ post.

“J&K recently witnessed peaceful terror free elections & this knee jerk reaction will only prove otherwise. Might also cause outrage against Kashmiris working & studying in other states. Request Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah & LG @manojsinha_ ji to intervene & at least give them enough time.”

Meanwhile, J&K Police in Ganderbal vehemently denied authenticity in the social-media posts, saying it is committed to main security and a sense of safety to all those intending to earn their livelihood.

“The recent post in the social media about non-local labourers being asked to leave, is completely baseless. The J&K police is committed to maintain security and a sense of safety to all intending to earn their livelihood,” Ganderbal Police wrote in an ‘X’ post.

Notably, a deadly militant attack on Sunday evening left seven persons, including a doctor dead, even as several others with injuries of diverse nature.
