Srinagar: Former Cabinet Minister in erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir & JKNC senior leader Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan is being assumed as ‘hot favourite’ to secure party’s mandate from Baramulla Lok Sabha.
As learnt, the party cadre in native district of Chaudhary have been rallying behind the senior leader to see him securing the mandate even as the party insiders informing of the leadership having generated a consensus on name of the former Cabinet minister to field him against two main rivals in the form of Sajjad Gani Lone and Mir Fayaz – from Peoples Conference and Peoples Democratic Party respectively.
“At a time when there is grapevine of some internal rift over the nomination of candidates for the Baramulla seat, however Chaudhary Ramzan is hot favourite for the nomination given his acceptability among the public as compared to other party colleagues,” said the party insiders.
“Chaudhary has a long political career and has been vocal about many imminent issues from time to time,” the insiders said adding he has seen the party have gone through some grave challenges and instead of backing out he has stood with the party throughout earning him a special reputation among the party leadership and workers alike,” they said.
“With the political activities flaring up for a while now in backdrop of upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Chaudhary is being unanimously backed by all the four district leaderships falling in the segment” said the insiders.
“There however are some certain elements within the party who with some vested interests are creating unnecessary confusion and buzz over the mandate thing, but it should be no surprise for anyone if party straightaway goes for Chaudhary’s name because they won’t want to toy with the mandate having a bearing on over sixteen lac voters spanning over eighteen constituencies,” they said.
When asked about the delay in announcement of the names, the insiders said the party has sorted out the things and a formal and final announcement would be made soon.
