Kupwara: Flashfloods triggered by incessant rainfall over the past several days, have damaged large swathes of agricultural land in Lalpora Lolab in Kupwara district.

Locals from Lalpora village of Lolab said that due to continuous rainfall from past several days, the water bodies have seen considerable surge with the overflowing water entering nearby agricultural fields.

“People have been panicky after seeing the water entering the residential areas and agriculture fields,” a local said adding l, “It is unnatural to witness such a huge flow of water.”

Locals said that the water canal (Yander Khul) in Lalpora village has been flowing above normal and had destroyed large swathes of agricultural land.

They said that over ninety kanalz of paddy land has come under the flash floods, causing huge losses to the farmers.

Meanwhile, the affected farmers alleged that despite approaching the Irrigation and Flood Control Department several times for construction of protection walls’ on the banks of Yander Khul, nothing has been done so far.

The locals have in the meantime reiterated their demand, asking for construction of protection walls’ along the canal to avert any such damage in future.
