Kupwara: The Foundation Academy of Excellence, Lalpora, organised a Shaam-e-Ghazal on Friday to commemorate the birth anniversary of renowned Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib, reaffirming his lasting influence on literary thought and poetic expression.
The event provided a platform for poets, scholars, and students to engage in poetic recitation and literary exchange. Poets associated with Shehjar-e-Adab Lolab presented selected ghazals, drawing attention to classical themes and contemporary interpretations rooted in Ghalibโs tradition.
Noted poet and writer Ab Ahad Hami attended the programme as chief guest. Speakers highlighted his contribution to literature, particularly his translations of several ghazals of Mirza Ghalib into the Kashmiri language, which were described as an important step in making classical Urdu poetry accessible to a wider readership.
The speakers discussed the relevance of Ghalibโs poetry in the present context, citing its exploration of human emotions, philosophical inquiry, and social realities. They underlined the role of literary forums in encouraging critical thinking and cultural awareness among the younger generation.
At the conclusion of the programme, Founder of the Academy Mohammad Shafi expressed gratitude to the chief guest, participating poets, and attendees. He said such literary engagements play a key role in sustaining cultural discourse and strengthening literary circles at the local level.
