Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Estates Department has served eviction notices to nineteen (19) politicians across J&K, directing them to vacate government accommodations.
News agency KDC quoted sources as saying that nine politicians in Srinagar and ten in Jammu have been asked to vacate the state-owned properties.
“The eviction is part of a larger effort by the government to reclaim properties that are being ‘illegally occupied’ and to ensure these accommodations are used for their intended purpose,” they said.
Meanwhile, the Estates Department has scheduled an eviction drive in Srinagar on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 3 PM.
Sources said that the Department has formally written to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, seeking assistance for the operation.
The department has also requested the deployment of an Executive Magistrate Ist Class to oversee the eviction, along with necessary police support, including female officers, to ensure a smooth and orderly process.
