Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to reopen schools, colleges and universities in eight districts of the Kashmir region on Wednesday, Education Minister Sakina Itoo announced.
The decision comes two days after authorities ordered the closure of all educational institutions across Kashmir as a precautionary measure in view of the prevailing situation.
Speaking to reporters, Itoo said that academic institutions in eight districts will resume functioning from Wednesday. โAs of now, we have decided to reopen schools and colleges in eight districts of the Kashmir region. A final decision regarding Srinagar and Budgam districts will be taken later this evening,โ she said.
The earlier closure was ordered on Sunday to ensure the safety of students following widespread protests across Jammu and Kashmir after reports of the killing of Iranโs Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in joint US-Israeli strikes.
Meanwhile, schools up to Class 8 are also set to reopen after a winter break of more than two months.
