Drug Peddler Nabbed With Over 24 Kgs of Poppy Straw-like Narcotics in Kharkote Kathua, Says Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday said to have arrested a drug peddler with an approximate quantity of 24.05 kilograms of poppy straw-like narcotics in Kharkote area of Kathua district district.

“Intensifying its action against drug dealings and to neutralise the activities of drug peddlers within the district, J&K Police Kathua recovered/seized approx. 24.050 kgs of Popy Straw (phukki) like narcotics from the Kharote area of PP Industrial Estate Kathua , 01 drug peddler arrested and narcotics substance got seized on the spot,” the district police Kathua said in a statement issued to Alfaaz – The Words.

“On 06-10-2024 an information was received through the reliable sources that one person Namely Malkeet Singh, son of Sh. Bakshish Singh, resident of Ward Number 13 Sawan Chack Tehsil and District Kathua doing illegal trade of selling Poppy straw like Narcotics and kept intermediate quantity of narcotics substance in his possession at Link Road Kharote area,” reads the statement, adding, “Acting swiftly a Police team led by IC PP Industrial Estate Kathua under the supervision of Dysp Hqrs and SHO PS Kathua during naka/checking at Kharote area apprehended the accused who was roaming under suspicious circumstances in his car Maruti S-Presso wherein approx. 24.050 kgs of Poppy Straw (phukki) like narcotics was recovered from his illegal possession.”

“All the recovered narcotics including the car were seized, besides the drug peddler also arrested on the spot.”

“On this, a case FIR U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kathua while further investigation is underway, ” reads the statement.
