Srinagar: After ruling out any plans of a pre-poll alliance earlier this month, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference incumbent President Dr. Farooq Abdullah put up a blatant face, announcing that the party has finalized an alliance with Indian National Congress on all ninety seats.
Talking to the media persons after meeting with Leader of Opposition in the Lok, Rahul Gandhi and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Farooq Abdullah, said that the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere.
The alliance is on track and the papers will be signed by this evening, Dr. Farooq said, adding that the alliance has been forged on all 90 seats of Jammu and Kashmir.
The announcement comes just an hour after Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and senior Congress leaders met Abdullahs’ at their Gupkar residence today.
Pertinent to mention here that National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah had said on August 7, 2024 that his party will not form any pre-poll alliance with any party for the coming assembly elections.
“National Conference will not form any pre-poll alliance. We will fight assembly elections on our own,” Dr Farooq said.
NC had formed an electoral alliance with Congress in recent parliamentary polls. At that time also initially Dr Farooq Abdullah had ruled out an alliance with the party. But later NC President Omar Abdullah intervened and the alliance with Congress came into being.
There have been many other instances of the type, where the senior most politician has retreated from his stances’.
Notably, assembly elections in J&K are scheduled to be held in three phases, with the first phase being held on September 18, second on September 25 and third phase on October 1 and the results to be declared on October 4. (With inputs from news agency KNO)
