Kupwara: Senior Advocate Bilal Ahmad Malik was elected as President, Ahrar Mohiuddin Dar his deputy in the District Bar Association Kupwara elections held here on Monday.
Bilal Ahmad Malik, son of Dilshad Ahmad Malik, resident of Hayen Trehgam got elected as president unopposed whereas Ahrar Mohiuddin Dar son of Ghulam Mohiudin Dar resident of Jaggerpora Kupwara got elected as vice president unopposed.
Adv. Waqar Ahmad Pir, son of Sonauallah Pir, resident of Saiwan Lolab got elected as Joint secretary unopposed.
It only were for the posts of Secretary and Treasurer which saw the direct contest between the candidates.
Adv. Waseem Sajad Malik, son of Gulam Nabi Malik, resident of Gugloosa prevailed over Adv. Mir Ab. Qayoom, son of Asadullah Mir, resident of Bumhama by a bare margin of four votes and got elected as Secretary. A total of 84 votes were polled out of total 89 – Advocate Waseem secured 44 while as his rival secured 40 votes.
Similarly for the post of Treasurer, Peerzada Shahid-ul-Islam, son of Peer Shariefudin, resident of Batpora Kralpora, at present Bhagat colony Bumhama got 47 votes to triumph over Adv Mubeena daughter of Ghulam Mohd Sofi, resident of Arampora (37 votes) by 10 votes. The elections concluded peacefully.
