Srinagar: District Administration Kupwara has clamped a ban on the sale and use of firecrackers during the upcoming Eid eve.
District Magistrate Ayushi Sudan formally enacted the prohibition, citing significant risks to public health, property safety, and environmental well-being.
The order, enacted under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), emphasizes that uncontrolled firecracker usage during Eid celebrations has historically resulted in hazardous noise and air pollution, alongside property damage and widespread public inconvenience. “In the interest of public health and safety of property,” the directive, as per Alfaaz – The Words, states, restrictions have become imperative for the forthcoming festival.
Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) in Kupwara and Handwara have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the ban across all areas under the district’s jurisdiction.
