Srinagar: Peoples’ Democratic Party constituency incharge Handwara, and former Cabinet Minister Ghulam Mohiuddin Sofi’s son, Irfan Mohiuddin Sofi has tendered his resignation from Mehbooba Mufti-led party on Sunday.

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my deep disappointment and concern regarding the recent decision made by the party leadership with respect to the mandate for the Handwara constituency.

In his resignation letter addressed to party president Ms. Mehbooba Mufti, the party leader said that, “For a long time, my team and I have diligently managed and handled the constituency to the best of our abilities, ensuring that the values and principles of the Peoples’ Democratic Party were upheld. During this period, I have been at the forefront, working tirelessly to strengthen the party’s presence in the area. Our dedication and commitment have been nothing short of exemplary, and I truly believed that I was the deserving candidate for the mandate in Handwara.”

“To my surprise and that of many others in the constituency, the mandate was instead given to another individual.”

“The reasons for this decision are unknown to me, and it gives the impression that either the party no longer values my contributions or lacks confidence in me. This unexpected turn of events has left me disheartened, particularly because I, and my whole team who had put in significant effort over the years, was overlooked,” reads the letter, as per Alfaaz – The Words.

“In light of this, I, Irfan Mohi Ud Din Sofi, in my capacity as Senior Party Leader Constituency Incharge Handwara, hereby tender my resignation from the post. This decision stems from my deep sense of disappointment and frustration over the manner in which the mandate for the constituency was handled. The entire team was shocked to learn that I, despite my hard work and commitment, was not given the mandate.”

“I kindly request that your goodself accept my resignation. I cannot continue in this role under the current circumstances. I thank the party for the opportunities it has provided over the years, but I must express that this recent decision has shaken my confidence. I hope that the leadership reconsiders its approach in the future, for the betterment of the party and its supporters,” concludes the letter.

Notably, PDP recently announced Mir Azad Parwaz as it’s contesting from the Handwara segment.
