Handwara: In a significant effort to address the growing concerns surrounding public safety and security, a high-level Crime and Operational Review Meeting was held today at the District Police Office (DPO) Handwara. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Shri Maqsood-ul-Zaman, IPS, with the participation of senior officers, including GOs and SHOs from across the region.
The primary focus of the meeting was to evaluate the progress of crime-related investigations, discuss challenges faced by law enforcement, and devise strategic solutions to enhance operational efficiency and public safety. SSP PD Handwara presented a detailed analysis of recent crime data, highlighting the resolution of cases across various categories, with a special focus on cases registered under UAPA and NDPS Acts.
The meeting also addressed the operational preparedness of the police force, including the development of skilled personnel, improvement of coordination, and the use of advanced technology for detecting Anti-National Elements (ANEs). Key discussions were held on strengthening patrols, setting up surprise Nakas, and creating specialized task forces to combat terror-linked narco-networks. Additionally, the importance of fostering community engagement and working closely with stakeholders to tackle these security issues was emphasized.
In his closing remarks, DIG Shri Maqsood-ul-Zaman urged all officers to remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the public, employing a comprehensive approach to combat crime and terrorism. The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold regular reviews to assess the progress and effectiveness of the discussed strategies.
Following the meeting, DIG Shri Maqsood-ul-Zaman visited the home of Martyr ASI Showkat Ahmad of Lachampora, Handwara. He expressed his deep appreciation for the officer’s supreme sacrifice in service to the nation and instructed all officers in Handwara to extend full support and assistance to the martyr’s family during this difficult time.
