Handwara: Department of Social Forestry in unison with Government Degree College Handwara on Tuesday marked International Day of Forests.
Range officers of Social Forestry Division Kupwara, Senior Trade Union Leader and TUCC J&K President Syed Ghulam Rasool Geelani alongwith Principal GDC Handwara, students of the college, professors, field employees of Social Forestry, NSS & NCC Volunteers inaugurated the plantation drive to mark the day.
Gilani highlighted the importance of increasing the area ofโโforests and plantation to protect the environment from dangerous pollution caused by indiscriminate felling of trees and emphasized on all stakeholders.
He also laid stress on sustainable development and innovative measures that should be taken in order to preserve this beautiful planet for future generations. He appealed to the students, NSS & NCC Volunteers to plant trees in their respective areas and help different wings of the forest department to ensure the protection of green gold.
Principal and Vice Principal GDC Handwara also highlighted the importance and significance of afforestation and the conservation of green-gold which has become vulnerable to human interference.
