Delhi High Court Grants 2-Day Custody Parole to J&K MP Engineer Rashid for Parliament Attendance

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has granted two-day custody parole to Jammu and Kashmir MP Engineer Rashid, allowing him to attend parliamentary proceedings. Rashid, who is currently in judicial custody in connection with an alleged militant-funding case, will be permitted to participate in the session under security arrangements.

The decision comes after Rashid’s legal team argued for his right to represent his constituents’ in Parliament. The court’s order ensures that he will remain in custody while being escorted to and from the proceedings.

Engineer Rashid, an independent MP from Baramulla, secured a surprise victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections despite being incarcerated. His case has drawn significant political and legal attention, with supporters viewing the court’s fresh decision as a step toward upholding democratic representation, and the party saying to continue tye legal battle to seek and ensure absolute bail of the party supremo.

Confirming the development, AIP Spokesperson Inam un Nabi told Alfaaz The Words, that the two day parole is a welcome step and the party will seek extension of the bail in days to come.

“The (AIP) party welcomes the Court decision and we hope that bail will be extended to let the Member Parliament, work without any hindrance,” Inam said, adding, “Come what may, the party will continue its legal battle to seek and ensure absolute bail for the party supremo, who by himself is supposed to work for the people as Member Parliament of one of the largest constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir.”
