Srinagar: A day after traders at Bohri Kadal staged a protest against over inconvenience caused by installation of road barricades, the local business community has expressed cautious optimism following assurances from officials that the matter will be reviewed in light of public convenience.
DySP Traffic Suhail Reshi on Wednesday visited Bohri Kadal to assess the ground situation and engage directly with the aggrieved traders. During his interaction, he acknowledged the traders’ concerns and said that efforts were underway to ease movement while maintaining necessary traffic discipline.
“If vehicle drivers follow traffic norms and adhere to the prescribed guidelines, much of the congestion can be mitigated,” DySP Reshi said. “We are exploring ways to remove bottlenecks. In Rajouri Kadal, we experimented with lifting barricades during the daytime, and it worked well, a similar approach could be considered here.”
Responding to a query on illegal parking in the Downtown area, especially given the recurring fire incidents, the officer stressed the importance of civic sense. “Every citizen must share responsibility for smooth traffic and pedestrian movement. Still, the police are doing their best to address the issue in the larger public interest,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Bohri Kadal Traders’ Federation thanked DySP Traffic Suhail Reshi for his visit and for showing prompt concern toward their grievance. The federation assured full cooperation with the administration in finding a workable solution that serves both public safety and business continuity.
