Chargesheet Filed Against Six, Including Serving SI, in ₹3 Crore Fake Kashmir Sapphire Case

Jammu: Jammu Police have filed a chargesheet in a major cheating and fraud case involving six accused, including a serving Sub Inspector of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in connection with a ₹3 crore fake Kashmir Blue Sapphire scam.

According to police, the accused allegedly duped a Hyderabad based businessman by falsely claiming to sell rare Kashmir Blue Sapphires. The complainant was identified as Mir Firasath Ali Khan.

Those named in the chargesheet include Mohd Rayaz, son of Reham Ali, resident of Gurdanbala, Rajouri, presently at Chinor, Jammu. Mohd Taj Khan, son of Haji Jumma Khan, resident of Potha Surankot, Poonch, presently at East Extension, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. Showkat Hussain, son of Reham Ali, resident of Gurdanbala, Rajouri. Mohd Shafi, son of Abdullah, resident of Gatha, Bhaderwah, Doda, presently at Bhatindi, Jammu. Kulwinder Singh, son of Bachan Singh, resident of Koulpur, Vijaypur, Samba, presently at Model Town, Gangyal, Jammu. SI Mohd Maqbool Dugga, son of Gh Nabi, resident of Srinagar, presently at Upper Thather, Bantalab, Jammu.

The investigation revealed a larger criminal conspiracy in which Mohd Taj Khan allegedly posed as the Raja of Jammu, while other accused acted as his agents, claiming the gemstones were part of a royal treasure. Police recovered several fake gemstones and forged articles during searches conducted at the residences of Mohd Taj Khan, Mohd Shafi, and Mohd Maqbool.

Earlier, Jammu Police had recovered ₹62 lakh and restored the amount to the complainant.

The FIR was registered on December 15, 2024, at Police Station Bahu Fort. The investigation was conducted by SDPO City West Jammu Dr Satish Bhardwaj JKPS, under the supervision of SP South Ajay Sharma JKPS and overall supervision of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh JKPS.

During the investigation, police also identified properties acquired by the accused using proceeds of the crime. An application has been filed before the Railway Court Jammu under Section 107 of BNSS for attachment of such properties, reflecting a victim focused approach to justice.

The complainant has expressed appreciation for the timely and professional handling of the case by Jammu Police, who reiterated their commitment to curbing organised fraud and ensuring accountability.
