Budgam: The Khag-Sitharan road in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district has fallen into a state of severe disrepair, causing immense difficulties for commuters, particularly patients and the elderly. This crucial stretch of road, which also serves as the main route to the scenic tourist destination Tosamaidan—known as the “King of Meadows” — is now riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces, making travel hazardous and time-consuming.
Local residents say the deteriorating condition of the road is not just an inconvenience but a threat to life. “This road is the only link to vital services for people in our area. It’s been in bad shape for years, and it’s only getting worse,” said Mohd Maqbool, a resident of Sitharan.
“It’s a struggle for everyone, but it’s the patients who suffer the most. We need action, and we need it now.”
The poor condition of the road has led to serious delays in reaching hospitals and health centers, with some patients reportedly suffering due to the extended travel time.
Residents are particularly concerned about how these delays affect those in critical medical conditions.
Apart from health emergencies, the road is also vital for access to local markets, schools, and administrative services.
Locals are urging the administration to prioritize its repair.
Community leaders have appealed to the government to allocate immediate funds for the Macadamisation of the road.
They argue that repairing the road is not just a matter of convenience but a pressing public safety issue that demands urgent attention.
