New Delhi: According to Swiggyโs year-end report for 2025, Indians ordered a staggering 93 million biryanis on the platform this year, cementing the dishโs position as the most-ordered item for the 10th consecutive year.
Swiggyโs data reveals that Indians ordered one biryani every 3.25 seconds, translating to nearly 194 biryanis per minute. Summing up the phenomenon, the platform noted in its report, โBiryani is the undisputed King, proving that while trends may come and go, Indiaโs deep-rooted love for this aromatic masterpiece remains constant.โ
Among the many variations available, chicken biryani emerged as the clear favourite, accounting for 57.7 million orders on its own. From late-night cravings to family meals and celebrations, the dish continued to dominate carts across cities, cutting across age groups and regions.
The report also highlighted the effort behind the scenes. Delivery partners played a key role in keeping up with Indiaโs biryani obsession. Mohammad Razique, a delivery partner from Bengaluru, delivered an impressive 11,718 orders in 2025. Meanwhile, Poongodi, a delivery partner from Chennai, led among women delivery partners, completing 8,169 deliveries during the year.
Burgers were the second most loved with 44.2 million orders, followed by pizzas with 40.1 million orders.
Some orders stood out for their sheer scale. One customer in Mumbai placed what appeared to be a party-sized feast, ordering 15 units of dum chicken biryani, 10 plates of chicken meatball kebab, 5 plates of falafel-e-khaas, pepper paneer biryani, and a whopping 100 gulab jamuns from 99Store, a reminder that biryani is often at the heart of celebrations.
As Swiggyโs decade-long data shows, while food trends continue to evolve, Indiaโs love affair with biryani remains unchanged. (IT)
