Shopian: In a historic achievement, 12-year-old Ayesha Binti Aamir from Shopian, South Kashmir, has clinched a bronze medal at the prestigious 38th Sub-Junior National Taekwondo Championship. The championship was held from November 29 to December 1, 2024, at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula, Haryana.
Ayesha’s bronze medal marks a significant milestone, as she becomes the first-ever sub-junior female athlete from Jammu and Kashmir to achieve such a feat in Taekwondo at the national level. Competing in her debut national championship, Ayesha showcased exceptional skill and determination, etching her name in the history of sports in the region.
A dedicated trainee at the Khelo India Taekwondo Centre in Shopian, Ayesha attributes her success to the rigorous training and support she received at the center. Her achievement highlights the growing potential of grassroots sports initiatives like Khelo India, particularly in remote regions like South Kashmir.
The young athlete and her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Nuzhat Gull, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, for her role in promoting platforms that nurture local talent. They emphasized the significance of such initiatives in encouraging youth to excel in sports and pursue their dreams on national and international stages.
“This medal is not just mine; it belongs to every young athlete from remote areas who dares to dream big,” Ayesha said, beaming with pride.
