New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), on April 18, informed a Delhi court that the jailed Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, was intentionally consuming mangoes, sweets, and sugar in his tea to elevate his blood sugar levels. This strategy is being perceived as an attempt to use medical grounds for securing bail.
The ED’s assertions were presented by counsel Zoheb Hossain before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, in response to Kejriwal’s plea for regular monitoring of his sugar levels and virtual consultations with his physician, according to a report by the Bar and Bench.
Hossain disclosed that this information was acquired following the agency’s inquiry into Tihar jail regarding Kejriwal’s dietary habits and medications.
Advocate Vivek Jain, representing Kejriwal, however, contested the ED’s claims, alleging they were aimed solely at garnering media attention. Jain also hinted at the withdrawal of the current petition, with plans to submit an improved one.
Earlier this month, Delhi Minister Atishi had asserted that Kejriwal’s health condition had significantly worsened since his detention on March 21. The AAP leader mentioned that Kejriwal, who battles “serious diabetes,” had shed 4.5 kg of weight since his apprehension.
CM Kejriwal is currently held in Tihar jail concerning a money laundering investigation linked to the Delhi excise policy. His legal team had previously informed the Rouse Avenue Court about his dangerously low sugar levels, which have been fluctuating persistently. The court has requested a report from Tihar Jail regarding Kejriwal’s dietary regimen.
