Army’s Dagger Division B’la Commemorates Platinum Jubilee of ‘Historic Landing of Pir Panjal Brigade in Srinagar’

Baramulla: The Indian army on Friday commemorated the Platinum Jubilee event of ‘Historic landing of Pir Panjal Brigade in Srinagar’, with paying homage to the gallant soldiers laying their lives in the line of duty and to secure Jammu and Kashmir’s destiny with the nation.

“In a poignant and solemn ceremony, the nation paid its heartfelt homage to the gallant soldiers of the Indian Army, specifically the Pir Panjal Brigade, which later became part of the Dagger Division in Baramulla. Their historic landing in Srinagar on October 27, 1947, marked a pivotal moment in the history of the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir and independent India”, reads a statement issued here.

“The Platinum Jubilee Commemoration, coupled with the reverent celebration of Infantry Day, served as a profound testimony to the unwavering commitment and indomitable spirit of the Indian Army in safeguarding India’s sovereignty”, reads the statement.

“A series of moving and patriotic activities unfolded at the Headquarters of the Pir Panjal Brigade and Brig Rajinder Singh Memorial in Boniyar, which has since become a revered symbol of valor and sacrifice. The event stood as a fitting tribute to the valiant members of the Pir Panjal Brigade, Dagger Division, and Chinar Corps.”

“The solemn proceedings commenced with the Chief Guest of the event, Major General Rajesh Sethi, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Dagger Division in Baramulla, and Brigadier PMS Dhillon, the Commander of the Pir Panjal Brigade, paying their respects by laying wreaths at the Brig Rajinder Singh Memorial and the Pir Panjal Brigade War Memorial. This heartfelt gesture served as a poignant reminder of the ultimate sacrifices made by Brigadier (Late) Rajinder Singh, MVC, and the soldiers of the Indian Army during the 1947-48 Operations”, the statement reads.

“The atmosphere resonated with patriotic fervor as the students of the Brig Rajinder Singh Army Goodwill School in Boniyar sang moving patriotic songs in memory of the brave soldiers who had sacrificed their lives to secure India’s borders.”

“The Chief Guest of the event had the privilege of engaging with representatives from the units that participated in the 1947-48 Operations. Their first-hand accounts provided invaluable insights into the challenges and triumphs of that period”, the statement reads.

“A significant moment during the celebration was the inauguration of the Pir Panjal Brigade Archives, which will serve as a repository of historical records, photographs, and documents related to the Pir Panjal Brigade’s participation in the Indo-Pak wars of 1947-48, 1965, and 1971, as well as Operation RAKSHAK. These archives will play a crucial role in preserving the legacy of these courageous soldiers for future generations,” it reads.

“A captivating short film, chronicling the heroic actions and sacrifices of the Pir Panjal Brigade during the 1947-48 Operations, was screened at the Archives. The audience was deeply moved by the bravery and unwavering determination displayed by these soldiers in the face of adversity”, the statement reads.

“To conclude, the GOC Dagger Division unveiled a mural depicting the “Capture of Hajipir Pass.” This mural stands as a visual tribute to the exceptional achievements of the Pir Panjal Brigade during the Indo-Pak wars of 1947-48 and 1965”, it read further.
