Apni Party Joint Secretary Abdul Rehman Wani Voices Concerns Over SPO Welfare and Employment Issues at Sogam

01/02/2025

Lolab: Apni Party Joint Secretary Abdul Rehman Wani raised serious concerns regarding the welfare of Special Police Officers (SPOs), civil administration issues, and the need for improved employment opportunities during the Thana Diwas Program held at Sogam Lolab.

Wani highlighted the significant disparity in the salaries of SPOs in Jammu and Kashmir compared to their counterparts in other states. While SPOs in other regions earn ₹35,000, those in Jammu and Kashmir receive far less, despite working extended hours, being on 24/7 duty, and performing dangerous tasks.

He stressed that SPOs undertake responsibilities just as critical as regular police personnel, yet their efforts remain largely unrecognized. Despite wearing the same uniform and facing comparable challenges—sometimes even heavier workloads—SPOs continue to be overlooked and undervalued.

Wani also expressed concern over the future of SPOs after retirement, pointing out that unlike regular police officers, they receive no promotions, allowances, or financial security. He urged the government to address these inequities and provide SPOs with the recognition and support they deserve for their dedicated service.

“Who will look after their children once they retire?” Wani asked, highlighting the emotional and financial strain this lack of support places on SPOs and their families. He called on the government to ensure justice for these devoted personnel, expressing confidence that the central government would take positive steps to improve their situation.
