Andhra farmer finds diamond in his field, becomes millionaire overnight

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh): Boya Ramanjaneyulu, a farmer from Jonnagiri in Tuggali mandal of Kurnool district, unearthed a diamond while working on his farm on Friday.

Ramanjaneyulu and his brother Shekhar, both from Jonnagiri, make their living by growing crops on their two acres of land. When there is no cultivation, they work as drivers for a living.

On Friday morning, Boya Ramanjaneyulu found a stone while working in his field. He showed it to a diamond trader from Jonnagiri, who reportedly paid Rs 12 lakh in cash and five tolas in gold. The sudden influx of cash and gold has brought immense joy to the farmer, who has become a millionaire overnight. However, police claim to have no knowledge of this incident.

Diamonds have frequently been found during the monsoon season in agricultural lands in areas, such as Tuggali, Maddikera, Peravali, Pagidirayi, Jonnagiri and Yerragudi in Kurnool district.

In fact, people from Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and other places, in addition to those from Telugu states, search for diamonds in these areas.

Diamonds found are sold to merchants from Gooty, Jonnagiri and Peravali. There are allegations that some diamond traders often buy high-value diamonds for much less than their actual worth. This is because many of the finders are unaware of the diamonds’ true value.

Despite these concerns, however, locals remain hopeful of striking it rich. Many have set up temporary settlements and are searching for diamonds in the Jonnagiri area. It is reported that 42 diamonds have been found so far this year due to heavy rains during the Kharif season.

A trader mentioned that 4–8 diamonds are being discovered each week. But where they have been found and to whom they have been sold remains a mystery.
