Srinagar: Former BDC Chairman Langate and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) senior leader Showkat Hassan Pandit on Monday voiced serious concern over the sluggish progress of implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) schemes across the Kashmir Valley, urging authorities to expedite the work to alleviate the suffering of the people.
In a statement issued to Alfaaz – The Words, Pandit said that the delay in the completion of JJM projects—many of which were scheduled to be completed years ago—has left thousands without proper access to drinking water.
“People are grappling with inadequate drinking water facilities, and the primary reason is the persistent delay in the JJM schemes. Even minor issues take months for the department to resolve,” Pandit said. “The department must accelerate the work and ensure basic amenities reach the public without further delay.”
Pandit acknowledged the efforts of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) in pushing the work forward but expressed disappointment that despite their hard work, the projects remain incomplete.
He called on the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to ensure the timely completion of the JJM initiatives and provide much-needed relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
