Srinagar: Following the Pahalgam terror attack, Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) unequivocally condemns the recent incidents of harassment, intimidation, and physical attacks on Kashmiri students studying in various educational institutions outside Jammu & Kashmir.
According to a media statement, Spokesman Advocate Shahnawaz Abdullah described these incidents disturbing, calls these incidents a grave assault on the principles of humanity, unity, and the right to education. Such acts of retribution against innocent Kashmiri students are unacceptable and must be addressed with utmost urgency by the authorities, he said.
He said that The Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent people, including tourists and locals, was a barbaric act of violence that shook the conscience of every Kashmiri and every Indian. The AIP has already expressed its unequivocal condemnation of this attack, terming it an assault on Kashmir’s centuries-old culture of hospitality, peace, and coexistence. However, the targeting of Kashmiri students in states outside Jammu & Kashmir as a reaction to this tragedy is a deeply troubling development that threatens to deepen divisions and foster mistrust among communities.

Kashmiri students, who leave their homes to pursue education in different parts of the country, are ambassadors of our region’s rich cultural heritage and aspirations for a better future. They study in diverse institutions, often under challenging circumstances, with the hope of contributing to the progress of both their homeland and the nation. Subjecting them to harassment, violence, or discrimination based on their identity is not only unjust but also a violation of their fundamental rights as citizens of India. Such actions run counter to the spirit of unity in diversity, he added.
He urged Central Government & the State Governments to take immediate and decisive action to ensure the safety and security of Kashmiri student.
Mir said that AIP stands in solidarity with the students and their families during this distressing time. We also reiterate our call for a thorough investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack to bring the perpetrators to justice and address any security lapses that allowed such a tragedy to occur. The safety of all citizens, including tourists, locals, and students, must be a priority for the government.
We urge the government to act swiftly to restore confidence among Kashmiri students and their families, ensuring that they can pursue their education without fear or prejudice, he added.
