Srinagar: The Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) on Wednesday alleged discrimination in the justice system, claiming that Kashmiri prisoners are being denied parole and case reviews while influential convicts elsewhere continue to receive repeated relief.

AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said in a statement issued here that, several Kashmiri inmates have spent decades in prison without parole or meaningful legal review. He cited the cases of Feroz Ahmad and Parvaiz Ahmad of Tral, who have been incarcerated for over 22 years, and Abdul Majeed Baba of Sopore, Fayaz Ahmad Lone of Kupwara, and Bashir Ahmad Kunoo of Sopore, each imprisoned for around 12 years.

He said their prolonged detention reflects a denial of basic humanitarian consideration. “These are human lives, not files to be forgotten,” Inam Un Nabi said.

Drawing a contrast with the repeated parole granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the AIP spokesperson said the disparity highlights an unequal and selective application of justice.

The party demanded an immediate review of long-pending cases of Kashmiri prisoners lodged both within and outside Jammu and Kashmir, urging authorities to ensure uniform and humane application of the law. “Parole should not be a privilege for a few and a denial for others simply because they are from Kashmir,” he added.
