New Delhi: Champions Trophy 2025 is likely to be moved out of Pakistan, according to reports. The coveted ICC tournament was set to be hosted by Pakistan but reports claim it may well have a new venue.
The Champions Trophy will make a comeback after eight years. The last time it was held was in 2017 and then Champions Pakistan was set to host the event in 2025. However political tensions between India and Pakistan mean the Indian players may not be allowed to travel to Pakistan.
Amid the conundrum, the possible resolution which is being reported is the tournament taken out to a different country. If the Indian government doesn’t change its stance, the tournament won’t be taking place in Pakistan. A hybrid model is also a possibility and then it will be the same as it happened in the Asia Cup this year.
UAE may host CT 2025
Pakistan Cricket Board is yet to respond to this but we can expect a strong protest against the decision if it surfaces. If the tournament is moved out of Pakistan, then UAE will be considered as a possible destination.
Matches can be held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah and we may witness the Middle-Eastern country hosting the second ICC tournament in their history, after hosting the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021.
This is the 9th edition of the Champions Trophy an will be played after a gap of eight years. India and Australia have won the title twice, while Pakistan, West Indies, New Zealand and South Africa have also been crowned champions in the past.
Pakistan was recently divested of full hosting rights of Asia Cup and the event played on a hybrid model basis with the actual hosts made to share rights with Sri Lanka on hybrid-model basis.
