Srinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on social media platform X, confirming that two factions earlier associated with the Hurriyat Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, J&K Tahreek-i-Istiqlaal and J&K Tahreek-i-Istaqaamat, have formally abandoned separatist ideologies and pledged support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “new Bharat.”
The statements of the two groups announcing their dissociation with Hurriyat and its ideology, as exclusively reported by Alfaaz – The Words on Wednesday evening, marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the Kashmir Valley.
Shah stated, “Under the Modi government, separatism is breathing its last, and the triumph of unity is echoing across Kashmir.” He credited the central government’s policies for fostering integration and trust in the region.
Notably, the Hurriyat Conference, a conglomerate of separatist groups, has historically advocated for self-determination in Jammu and Kashmir. The dissociation of these two groups is seen as part of a broader trend for Centre’s push towards normalization post the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
