Srinagar: The Department of Law at Central University successfully conducted a two-day national-level workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR): Knowledge Creation and Entrepreneurship on May 1st and 2nd, 2024. The workshop witnessed an enthusiastic participation of more than 100 attendees, comprising of faculty members from various departments of Central University of Kashmir (CUK), as well as students and scholars from across the institution.
The inaugural session, which set the tone for the engaging discussions to follow, was moderated by Dr. Mudasir Bhat (Co–Convener) , Assistant Professor and Legal Advisor at CUK. Dr Gulafroz Jan (Convener), Sr. Assistant Professor, CUK addressed the attendees with event introduction. Prof. (Dr) Farooq Ahmad Mir, Head & Dean, School of Legal Studies, CUK, delivered the welcome address and shared special remarks, setting the context for the workshop. Dr. T. Pavan Kumar, Senior Scientist at CSIR-IMMT Bhubaneswar, delivered a special address, providing valuable insights into the theme of the workshop.
The inaugural address was given by Prof. (Dr) Mohad Afzal Zargar Registrar, CUK, emphasizing the importance of conducting national level workshops. Dr Hilal Ahmad Najar, Academic Coordinator & Sr. Assistant Professor, Department of Law, CUK expressed gratitude to all participants and stakeholders in his formal vote of thanks.
Following the inaugural session, the workshop proceeded with two technical sessions on the first day. Technical Session I, efficiently moderated by Dr. Jaheer ul Islam, Associate Professor, Department of Law at CUK, featured distinguished speakers including Er. Afaq Alam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Technology, CUK; Dr. Yogesh Dhoble, Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-IPU, New Delhi; and Dr. T. Pavan Kumar, Senior Scientist at CSIR-IMMT Bhubaneswar. These experts delved into topics such as the patent filing process, learning on patents and industrial designs. The session concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Dr. Uzma, Assistant Professor, Department of Law at CUK, acknowledging the insightful contributions of the speakers and the active participation of the attendees.
Technical Session II was conducted under the adept moderation of Dr. Raihana Shawl, Assistant Professor, Department of Law at CUK. This session boasted an impressive lineup of speakers, including Dr. Asif H. Shah, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at CUK; Dr. Mohammad Imran Khan, Assistant Professor at Aligarh Muslim University; and Dr. Mohammad Ahsan Chishti, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the National Institute of Technology. These distinguished experts engaged in a profound discussion on the Importance of Intellectual Property Rights and the pivotal Role of IPR in Driving Economic Development. The session, along with the culmination of Day 1 of the workshop, was gracefully concluded with a formal vote of thanks extended by Dr. Mangal Singh Bisen, Associate Professor, Department of Law at Central University of Kashmir.
The first session of Day 2, Technical Session III, was impeccably moderated by Ms. Kinjal Bagdi, Assistant Professor, Department of Law at CUK. This session was graced by luminaries in the field of Intellectual Property Rights, namely Dr. Saurabh Yadav from H.N.B. Garhwal University, Uttarakhand; Dr. Kapil Arya, Principal Scientist at CSIR-IPU, New Delhi; Prof. (Dr) Manoj Dhar, Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu; and Dr Dayananda Murthy CP, Associate Professor & Chair Professor, DPIIT IPR Chair, DSNLU, Visakhapatnam.
The thematic focus of this session revolved around elucidating the Types of IPRs with Examples, delving into the Essentials of Copyrights and Trademarks and the relevance and challenges of protecting IPR for startups. The session concluded on a note of gratitude, with a vote of thanks extended by Mr. Mohammd Yousuf Dar, Assistant Professor, Department of Law at CUK.
The Valedictory Session, a fitting finale to the enriching workshop, was skillfully moderated by Dr. Mudasir Bhat, Assistant Professor, Department of Law & Legal Advisor, Central University Kashmir.
The event commenced with a warm Welcome Address delivered by Prof. (Dr) Farooq Ahmad Mir, Head and Dean of the School of Legal Studies at Central University of Kashmir, setting a tone of gratitude and reflection. Dr. Gulafroz Jan, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Law at CUK, presented a comprehensive Workshop Report, encapsulating the essence of the discussions and deliberations that transpired over the course of the workshop. This was followed by a Special Address by Prof. (Dr) Mohammad Hussain, Head and Dean of the School of Law at the University of Kashmir, who shared insightful perspectives on the significance of the workshop’s themes.
The highlight of the session was the Valedictory Address delivered by Prof. (Dr) M.K. Bandhari, Founder-Director of the Global Academy of Lawtech Education and Research. With his vast knowledge and invaluable expertise, Prof. Bandhari enriched everyone with profound insights into Intellectual Property Rights and its pivotal role in today’s world. Dr. Mudasir Bhat concluded the workshop with heartfelt gratitude, extending thanks to all the speakers, faculty, participants, and stakeholders who have contributed to the success of the event.
