Handwara: A two-day Cricket tournament for women was on Saturday inaugurated by Indian Army’s 21 RR Bhagatpora unit at Baki Akar Ground.

A total four teams are participating namely in the tournament, which include Ashutosh Army Goodwill School Budkot, Govt Girls Higher Sr Sec School Langate, Govt Girls Higher Sr Sec School, Zachaldara and Handwara Red wings.

On the first day on Saturday, two matches were played, the first between Ashutosh Army Goodwill School, Budkoot and Govt Girls Higher Sr Secondary School Zachaldara. The match was won by Aushtosh Army Goodwill School Budkoot by 16 runs.

The second match was played between Red Wings Handwara and Govt Girls Higher Sec School Langate, which Red wings won the match.

All the teams showcased their skills and talent which was seen on the ground.

There was a good gathering around the Cricket ground and the girls were cheered on by the locals which boosted their morale.

BDC Rajwar Miss Shaheena Begum was also present on this occasion to motivate the teams and to promote ‘the girl power’, which is also the motto of the tournament.

Locals of the area have extended their gratitude to the Indian Army for thier efforts in promoting sports for the local youth.

Meanwhile the final match is being played between Red Wings Handwara and Aushtosh Army Goodwill School Budkoot, Handwara today (Sunday).
