Srinagar: Ten Indian Army personnel lost their lives and as many sustained injuries after an army vehicle skidded off the road in Bhaderwah area in Doda.
As per officials, the vehicle plunged into a gorge in the Khannitop area along the Bhaderwah-Chamba inter-state road in the district this afternoon.
Rescue teams, including the Army, police and local administration, rushed to the spot and carried out evacuation operations. The injured were shifted to nearby medical facilities, while critically injured soldiers were airlifted to higher centres for specialised treatment.
Lieutenant Governor Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
โDeeply saddened at the loss of lives of 10 of our brave Indian Army soldiers in an unfortunate road accident in Doda. We will always remember the outstanding service and supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers. My deepest condolences to the grieving families,โ the LG said in a post on X.
He said ten injured soldiers have been airlifted to hospitals and senior officials have been directed to ensure the best possible treatment. Praying for their speedy recovery, he added.
Meanwhile, authorities have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the accident.
